10MT Ten-Minute Takeaways
This is a new segment I have been excited to introduce; Ten-Minute Takeaways. What are Ten-Minute Takeaways? These are paradigm-shifting moments I’ve experienced reading, listening to, and learning from people far smarter than myself. I’ve distilled them down for your benefit but there will always be a link to the original source in the show notes if you want to drink from the fire hose.
You Are Awesome: How to Navigate Change, Wrestle with Failure, and Live an Intentional Life by Neil Pasricha
Why is life getting harder instead of easier?
How do I get back up after life knocks me down?
And how do I grow stronger and live more intentionally?
These are some of the questions grappled with by the author that inspired today’s Ten-Minute Takeaway on resilience – Neil Pasricha. I first heard of Pasricha because of his collection of short stories on positivity called The Book of Awesome. Neil’s writing is full of self-deprecation, humor, and a much-needed dose of positivity. I highly encourage you to check him out if you need help seeing the joy in daily life.
There’s a lot to be said for seeing the world through rose-colored glasses. Building a positive mindset has been proven to help reduce stress, increase lifespan, and promote better coping skills during times of hardship and stress. For a list of other benefits to positivity, check out this article by the Mayo Clinic.
While The Book of Awesome was my first exposure to Neil Pasricha’s work, it is his book on resilience; You Are Awesome which really forced me to make some major changes in my life. I’m still learning to put gratitude, positivity, and resilience into effect in my life but the benefits are clear.
